Getting to the University of Massachusetts Lowell

Driving to UMass Lowell: Due to the temporary closure of the University Avenue Bridge in Lowell, directions for driving to UMass Lowell may have changed. Select one of the links below for updated directions to your desired destination from I-93, I-495 or Rt. 3. Note that the Ouellette Bridge on Aiken St. is one way northbound 2:30 to 6 p.m., Monday - Friday.

To get to UMass Lowell North from I-93 North and South

Take Exit 46 (Lawrence/Dracut) and follow Rte. 110 toward Lowell (Dracut). Rte 110 becomes VFW Highway. Proceed to fourth light at University Ave and turn right. UML North is on either side of the road.

To get to UMass Lowell North from I-495 North and South

Take Exit 38 toward Lowell on Route 38/Rogers St. After 1.5 miles, Route 38 bears right at a fork and becomes Nesmith Street. Continue on Route 38 past Saints Memorial Hospital on left (approximately one mile). At the rotary, travel three-quarters of the way around and take the Route 38 exit onto VFW Highway. Proceed to fourth light at University Ave and turn right. UML North is on either side of the road.

To get to UMass Lowell North from Route 3 North

Take Exit 30B onto the Lowell Connector. Take Exit 3 onto Industrial Avenue. Go right at the stop sign at the end of the ramp and proceed to the rotary. Take the first right off the rotary onto Industrial Avenue. Proceed straight at the first traffic light at the intersection with Chelmsford Street (Route 110). Industrial Avenue becomes Stevens Street at this intersection.

Follow Stevens Street for approximately 1.5 miles. Take a right at the David Chandler Sq. sign onto Middlesex Street. Take the first left at the blinking light onto Wilder Street. Proceed straight on Wilder Street to its end at a T-intersection. (Pass UMass Lowell South on the left.) Take a right onto Pawtucket Street and travel .3 mile to first traffic lights (see Franco-American School to the left).

Turn left over the O’Donnell Bridge. At the next set of lights, turn right onto Pawtucket Blvd. Proceed about .4 mile to light at University Ave. Turn left. UMass Lowell North is on either side of the road.

To get to UMass Lowell North from Route 3 South

Take Exit 30A toward I-495N. Before entering 495, take Exit 35C to the Lowell Connector. Take Exit 3 onto Industrial Avenue. Go right at the stop sign at the end of the ramp and proceed to the rotary. Take the first right off the rotary onto Industrial Avenue. Proceed straight at the first traffic light at the intersection with Chelmsford Street (Route 110). Industrial Avenue becomes Stevens Street at this intersection.

Follow Stevens Street for approximately 1.5 miles. Take a right at the David Chandler Sq. sign onto Middlesex Street. Take the first left at the blinking light onto Wilder Street. Proceed straight on Wilder Street to its end at a T-intersection. (Pass UMass Lowell South on the left.) Take a right onto Pawtucket Street and travel .3 mile to first traffic lights (see Franco-American School to the left).

Turn left over the O’Donnell Bridge. At the next set of lights, turn right onto Pawtucket Blvd. Proceed about .4 mile to light at University Ave. Turn left. UMass Lowell North is on either side of the road.

To get to UMass Lowell South from I-495 North or South

Take I-495 to the Lowell Connector, Exit 35C. Take Exit 3 off the Lowell Connector to Industrial Avenue. Go right at the stop sign at the end of the off ramp and proceed to the rotary. Take the first right off the rotary onto Industrial Avenue.

The first traffic light is at the intersection with Chelmsford Street (Route 110). Proceed straight across. Industrial Avenue becomes Stevens Street at this intersection.

Follow Stevens Street for approximately 1.5 miles. Take a right at the David Chandler Sq. sign onto Middlesex Street. Take the first left at the blinking light onto Wilder Street. Proceed a short distance on Wilder to the traffic light at the intersection with Broadway. UMass Lowell South is ahead to the left.

To get to UMass Lowell South from I-93 North or South

Take Exit 46 (Lawrence/Dracut) and follow Rte. 110 toward Lowell (Dracut). Rte 110 becomes VFW Highway in Lowell. Follow VFW Hwy. to the fifth traffic light. Turn left over the O’Donnell Bridge. At the next light, turn right onto Pawtucket Street. Proceed .3 mile and turn left on Wilder Street (see Hess Gas Station at corner). UMass Lowell South is on the right.

To get to UMass Lowell South from Route 3 North

To get to UMass Lowell East from I-93 North or South

Take Exit 46 (Lawrence/Dracut) and follow Rte. 110 toward Lowell (Dracut). Rte 110 becomes VFW Highway in Lowell. Turn left at Bridge Street and proceed across the Merrimack River. At the next light, turn right onto French Street. Proceed almost one mile, past Lowell High School, to the intersection with Arcand Drive. The Tsongas Arena will be on the right. If traveling to Wannalancit Mills, continue straight. French Street becomes Fr. Morrissette Blvd. at this point. Turn right onto Suffolk Street, just past the Post Office. Wannalancit will be on the left.

To get to UMass Lowell East from I-495 North or South

Take I-495 to the Lowell Connector, Exit 35C. From the Connector, take Exit 5B onto Thorndike St. After four traffic lights, Thorndike St. bears right and becomes Dutton St. Continue on Dutton St. across Merrimack St. onto Arcand Drive.
