General Summary (Purpose) of Position
The Coordinator of Distance Learning Faculty Development will oversee Faculty Development and Training for the Division of Continuing Studies, Corporate & Distance Education.  The Coordinator will assist in the recruitment and development of faculty and contribute to the growth of the online learning program. The coordinator will assist in the management and oversight of the daily operations of the online learning program.

Examples of Duties:
1. Oversee design and implementation of training materials, workshops, institutes and special programs for faculty teaching online/blended or web-enhanced classes by:
• Teaching the Introduction to Online Teaching with Blackboard Vista online course.
• Developing and assessing standards for quality in online and blended course design and delivery.
• Coordinating ongoing review and documentation of Online Learning program policies and procedures as related to course design, online pedagogy, faculty support and development, and instructional support.
• Managing online, web-enhanced and blended course processes each semester and schedule semester specific communications to faculty regarding their courses in Blackboard Vista.
• Preparing faculty development stipend databases each semester.
• Leading and mentoring course developers and faculty development staff in professional and personal growth.
• Conducting annual reviews.
• Maintaining the University’s reputation as a thought leader in the field of online learning by publishing articles in journals and publications.
• Assisting in preparing grants and submission of awards for the Division’s signature programs.
• Assisting with the development of new corporate online training modules customized for corporate audiences.

2. Contribute to development of the Online Teaching Institute as a way to continue to provide state-of-the-art training and services to faculty and students by:
• Making recommendations for new training models for blended learning.
• Researching faculty development and training models at other institutions.
• Assisting faculty in identifying technology and multimedia needs and allocating appropriate staff and technical resources to help faculty meet their technology needs and migrate their course(s) online. 
• Overseeing the acquisition of all copyright permissions for non-original online course materials.
• Serving as a direct support staff person for all Continuing Studies faculty who teach online courses.
• Assisting in the development of checklists and quality rubrics for faculty interested in teaching online.
• Assisting in the development of faculty guidelines for developing online and blended classes.
• Making recommendations to develop the next generation of online courses including incorporating the use of Rich Media into online courses.

3. Oversee appropriate staffing for support of services by:
• Serving as a liaison between faculty and technical support staff.
• Assisting in the scheduling and provision of flexible staffing patterns to support the student/faculty needs of the Online Learning program, for special events such as Open House, the first week of the semester or special evening workshops.
• Developing systems and processes for tracking critical information about online programs and generating reports.
• Working with CSCE technical staff to continually improve the existing procedures for efficiently managing and extracting training-related and other data from EZ-Reg.
• Collaborating with enrollment management staff and academic advisers to help resolve student-faculty disputes or complaints, and help troubleshoot problems.

4. Promote the University’s commitment to customer service by:
• Representing the University's Online Learning program at the system-wide level by participation on system-wide technology committees as appropriate.
• Representing the University's Online Learning program at regional and national education, technology and distance learning conferences.
• Building effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
• Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
• Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master's degree required. 
• 2 years experience in the development of asynchronous online courses, materials, learning exercises, discussion activities, and assessment instruments in higher education including experience related to online education, course design and facilitation.
• Demonstrated ability to provide training and support to higher education faculty.
• Candidate must have outstanding platform and teaching skills both in the classroom and online at a University level. 
• Candidate must have a thorough understanding and experience using Blackboard Vista and its use as a tool for teaching online, blended and web-enhanced credit courses. Familiarity with additional LMS applications preferred.
• Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with individuals and groups at all levels of the University.
• Experience in developing faculty training modules and an ability to design training that anticipates the learning needs of the faculty.
• Experience in both teaching academic credit courses at the University level as well as conducting research is preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and work on multiple projects simultaneously with great efficiency and attention to detail. Project management skills are important.
• Strong technical skills and the ability to identify new course development tools and learning technologies. 
• Strong philosophical belief in technology as a tool to enhance student learning.
• Ability to handle confidential matters with integrity and complete confidentiality
• Experience managing employees and teams are required.
• Strong leadership skills plus the ability to motivate others is required.
• Ability to work independently as well as with others in a team-oriented environment.
• Experience with corporate clients and delivery of customized corporate education programs is a plus.
• Preference will be given to candidates who have published articles in the field of online education.
• Preference will be given to candidates who can explain how they anticipate the learning challenges of online students by cultivating and nourishing their participation throughout an entire course.
• Some travel may be required to attend conferences and events.
