General Summary (Purpose) of Position
The Graphic Design Specialist produces visual solutions for the communications needs of UMass Lowell while maintaining a consistent identify for a variety of materials.

Examples of Duties:
1. Developing high quality promotional materials by:
• Meeting with internal and external clients to develop an understanding of specific needs for their project.
• Working with writers, marketing specialists, and photographers to express the needs of clients in appropriate medium.
• Designing both print and electronic materials for a variety of literature including newsletters, invitations, annual reports, flyers, ads, brochures, catalogs, folders, logos, posters, signage, magazines, etc.
• Prepare design comprehensives and presentations
• Handle project design and production aspects from concept.

2. Promote the University’s commitment to customer service by:
• Building effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
• Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
• Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelors of Science Degree in graphic design or similar degree with graphic design experience
• Five to seven years working as a graphic designer
• Demonstrated knowledge of current graphic design application software
• Demonstrated four- and two-color promotional design with hands-on pre-press production knowledge
• Demonstrated magazine, catalog, direct mail design, promotional literature design, and pre-press production
• Demonstrated print advertising design, information sheet/catalog design and production, on-site press-proofing
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
• Demonstrated understanding of internal budgets and purchasing procedures.
• Demonstrated ability working within scheduling and budget constraints in developing high quality materials.
• Advanced knowledge in QuarkXPress 7, Adobe Illustrator CS3, Adobe Photoshop CS3, Adobe Acrobat 8, and Adobe InDesign preferred.
• Trade show, banner, and signage design and production desirable.
• Organization logo application branding and control desired.
• Project coordination, project scheduling, client project interface, and client problem solving preferred.
