Description:

The purpose of this Post-Doctoral Research Associate is to work closely with faculty, other post-docs, graduate and undergraduate students engaged in research on the theoretical determination of line shape parameters for atmospheric interest.

Position is for one year with the possibility of an additional year based on performance.  Anticipated start date January 2009.

Examples of Duties:

1. Provide support for research efforts by:
• Performing semi-empirical calculations of line shape.
• Reviewing appropriate literature pertaining to current or proposed research.
• Presenting findings at local, regional and national meetings when necessary.
• Maintaining written and stored records about progress and process of research performed.
• Compiling reports and sending them out for appropriate publications.

2. Promote the University’s commitment to customer service by:
• Building effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
• Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
• Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ph.D. in physics or physical chemistry.
• Demonstrated knowledge of quantum mechanics of vibration and rotation of atmospheric molecules, with strong mathematical and FORTRAN skills desired.
• Ability to travel locally and nationally as needed.

Supervision Received:  Reports directly to Dean of  the School of Marine Sciences
