General Summary (Purpose) of Position
A tenure-track faculty position in Materials Science and Technology, one of three new faculty positions to be filled in the Ph.D. granting academic program, is available, starting September 2009, at the Assistant Professor level, or higher, to lead a multi-disciplinary research effort in solid-state physics and nano-structured materials. With demonstrated experience, an appointment at a more senior level will be considered.   The department is seeking a candidate to lead exploratory research in materials and device applications. The successful candidate would leverage the department’s on-going research in device design and fabrication technologies and complement other research efforts in terahertz imaging, photonics, lasers, advanced materials and radiation detection.

Salary commensurate with experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Earned Doctorate in Physics or related field.
• Demonstrated ability teaching undergraduate and graduate physics curricula.
• Outstanding record of research in the field of materials science.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Publications documenting research activities in scholarly journals.
• Ability and commitment to work with diverse student and faculty population.
