General Summary (Purpose) of Position
The Corporate and Foundations Relations Officer, as a central member of the Advancement Office’s leadership giving team, is charged with initiating and managing relationships with local, regional and national corporations and foundations to raise restricted and unrestricted funds in support of The University of Massachusetts Lowell’s strategic objectives. Will also design and implement a fundraising plan focused on corporations and foundations, while leveraging the distinctive expertise of the university’s faculty and staff.
Examples of Duties:
1. Expanding the University’s corporate partnerships and funding by:
• Cultivating and soliciting corporate and foundation gift prospects through partnerships with key faculty, major gifts officers or on own.
• Developing, writing and submitting fundraising proposals, budgets and supporting documentation with the objective of maximizing cash and in-kind gifts and grants from current and new corporate and foundation funders.
• Maintaining a proactive role in all efforts to improve the organization’s process of identifying special projects with private corporate and private foundation funding potential.
• Expanding on current relationships with the University’s corporate partners that exist primarily at the sponsored research, grants and contracts levels to include affiliations which simultaneously build on business-to-business research and support and philanthropic support.
• Working closely with the Director of Prospect Research in the expansion and refinement of business and foundation prospect lists for the overall university and for individual programs, projects and services.
• Developing and sustaining a centrally coordinated database for corporation and foundation files, records and reports.
• Establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with the deans, key faculty and counterparts in the industrial partnership, intellectual properties and technology transfer areas to foster their involvement in the proposal creation and prospect identification process.
• Communicating with deans and key faculty regarding potential funding sources for academic program needs.
• Exploring and targeting potential prospects that may exist through alumni employees in management or administration with the government, business, industry and foundation sectors in collaboration with the Director of Alumni Relations.
• Planning, coordinating and evaluating the matching gifts and annual corporate partners program at corporation sites in collaboration with Director of Annual Giving.
2. Promote the University’s commitment to customer service by:
• Building effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
• Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
• Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Baccalaureate or higher degree.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible fund-raising experience preferably in the government, corporate or foundation arenas within higher education.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ease in interpersonal relationships; ability to work as a member of a high functioning, results oriented team.
• Demonstrated organizational ability, task orientation and timeliness.
• Proven ability to create and nurture productive working partnerships internally and externally.
• Flexibility to travel, the majority of which will be regional in scope. Weekend and evening work will occasionally be necessary.
• Personal characteristic to include high professional integrity when dealing with confidential data and situations.
• Affinity with the overall mission of the University of Massachusetts
Supervision Received: Reports directly to the Vice Chancellor of University Advancement
