General Summary (Purpose) of Position
The University of Massachusetts Lowell is seeking to fill an associate professor position in the Department of Chemical Engineering with starting date of  September 2009.  Candidates with experience in the focus areas of process development, control, cell culture, bioseparations and applied biomanufacturing research are encouraged to apply. 

Primary consideration will be given to candidates with outstanding records in scholarship and extramural funding  in areas that coincide with the Life Science Initiative of the Commonwealth and who are in position to make important contributions to further development of the Massachusetts Biomanufacturing Center at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (http://www.uml.edu/centers/biomanufacturing/).
This newly created Center supports transition of Massachusetts biotech companies from R&D into manufacturing.  The successful candidate will have access to a recently awarded $1.5 million Faculty Start-up Package from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (http://www.masslifesciences.com).

UMass Lowell is located approximately 25 miles northwest of Boston along the Merrimack River.  In addition to leadership in the emerging areas of biomanufacturing and nanomanufacturing, the University has unique expertise in plastics and composites processing, polymer science, green chemistry, and health and environmental issues in manufacturing, along with a strong history of collaborative research with industry.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Earned Doctorate Degree in related field, at least one degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Demonstrated ability for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Strong records in research and extramural funding.
• Interest and commitment to work with diverse student and faculty populations.
